Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An 1,3-oxazino (5,6-C) rifamycin derivative of formula I: (R is ≥7C primary amine residue).
EXAMPLE: N-n-Octyl-1,3-oxazino (5,6-C)-rifamycin.
USE: Antibiotics.
PROCESS: 3-Formylrifamycin SV of formula II is reacted with equimolar amounts of formaldehyde and a tertiary amine in an inert organic solvent at room temperature to the boiling point of the solvent for 0.5W10 hr to give 1,3-oxazino (5,6-C) rifamycin derivative of formula I.
