Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An isopropenyl carbonate of formula I (R' is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, or aryl group).
EXAMPLE: Ethyl isopropenyl carbonate.
USE: Useful as a protecting agent for a hydroxyl, amino, or imino group, capable of protecting them under mild conditions readily in high yield in a short time.
PROCESS: A halogenated hydroxycarbonyl compound of the formula R'-OCOX (X is halogen, e.g. Cl, Br, or I) is reacted with a halogenated acetonylmercury of formula II or bisacetonylmercury of formula III in a solvent, e.g. hexamethylphorphoramide or dimethylformamide, in the atmosphere of an inert gas at room temperature to 100°C, preferably 50W80°C, to give the compound of formula I.
