Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer recording medium having excellent rubbing resistance, by setting the penetration at 25 deg.C of a first heat-softenable layer provided on a base to be not more than 3, and incorporating substantially the entire amount of a coloring material into a second heat-softenable layer. CONSTITUTION:A first heat-softenable layer 11 substantially not containing any coloring material, comprising at least 50wt.% of a heat-fusible substance and having a penetration at 25 deg.C of not more than 3 is provided on a base 10 such as an ordinary paper, and a second heat-softenable layer 12 comprising a heat-fusible substance and a thermoplastic resin with 5-30wt.% of a coloring material dispersed therein is provided on the layer 11. When a bar code 24 is thermally transferred by use of this thermal transfer recording medium, the second heat-softenable layer 22 containing the coloring material is provided on a transfer recording material 23, in patterns separated by non-transfer parts 25, and the first heat-softenable layer 21 not containing the coloring material is provided thereon to cover the second layer 22. Since the first heat softenable layer exposed at the surface has the low penetration of a stylus, it is hardly damaged due to contact or the like, and rubbing resistance is enhanced.
