Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve weatherability by providing dielectric layers formed on the outside surface of a plastic substrate and further protective layers of perfluoropolyether formed thereon. CONSTITUTION:The 1st and 2nd dielectric layers 2, 4 consisting of Si3N4, etc., are formed as underlying and protective layers on the plastic substrate 1 and recording layers 3 consisting of thin amorphous alloy films having the axis of easy magnetization perpendicular to the film planes are formed thereon. The 3rd dielectric layers consisting of SiO2, etc., are formed on the outside surface of such recording medium corresponding to the side opposite to the surfaces on which the recording layers 3 of the medium are formed and further, moistureproof layers 8 consisting of the perfluoropolyether are formed thereon. The deterioration occurring in the moisture absorption of the plastic substrate is thereby prevented and the reliability is enhanced.
