Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance a performance index by converting silicon nitride which constitutes a dielectric layer to amorphous silicon nitride and setting the atomic compsn. ratio thereof within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:The dielectric layer 2 consisting of the silicon nitride system is formed on a disk substrate 1 and a magnetic layer 3 is laminated on the layer 2; further, a protective layer 4 is formed thereon. The silicon nitride of the layer 2 of such magneto-optical recording element is converted to the amorphous silicon nitride and the atomic compsn. ratio thereof, i.e., the (x) value of the SiNx layer is set within a 0.40<=x<=0.65 range. The refractive index increases and the enhancement effect increases; in addition, the decreases of the reflectivity to an excessively small value in the case of forming the element is obviated, if this (x) value is set within the prescribed range. Furthermore, the fluctuation in the value decreases and the performance index at the time of reproduction increases. The double refractive index having reproducibility is not obtd. if the (x) value is below 0.40. On the other hand, the refractive index decreases if the (x) value exceeds 0.65.
