Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound having a structure much similar to that of ganglioside-based glycolipid in high yield, by reacting a sialosylceramide compound, a raw material compound with an alkali hydroxide in the presence of a solvent. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by formula I [R<1> is CH3CO-; one of R<2> and R<3> is -COOR<4> (R<4> is methyl) and the other is group shown by formula II (R<5> is -COC6H5)] is reacted with an alkali hydroxide in the presence of a solvent such as THF preferably at 20-30 deg.C for 24-150 deg.C to give the aimed compound shown by formula I wherein R<1> is H, R<4> is Na and R<5> is H. Preferably the alkali hydroxide is added as an aqueous solution to the solution of the compound shown by the formula I in the solvent and the reaction is carried out. The reaction is preferably carried out while stirring. The raw material compound shown by formula I is obtained from N-acetylneuraminic acid methyl ester peracetate as a starting raw material.
