Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for fine adjustment of the mounting position of a ribbon position detector and reduce the number of steps in a manufacturing line, by storing the difference between a correct initial position of a color ribbon and a ribbon position detected by the ribbon position detector, as a correction value for initial position. CONSTITUTION:When the position of a color ribbon is deviated from a position corresponding to a printing head PH in printing a character pattern on a paper, the character pattern is printed in two colors. When the ribbon is set to a correct initial position by moving the ribbon by operating a switch 5 for updating a correction value for initial position of the ribbon, printing is conducted in a single color. The difference between the position thus obtained and an initial position detected by a detector 7 for the initial position of the ribbon is obtained, and is stored into an initial ribbon position correction value storing circuit 4 as the correction value for the initial position. The printer is returned to a normal online state by a function-selecting switch 6 when the correct initial position is obtained, whereby a main controlling circuit 1 is enabled to determine the initial position of the color ribbon in formal printing on the basis of the correction value being stored, and the need for fine adjustment of the mounting position of the detector 7 is eliminated.
