Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily produce a high-grade sintered metal body at a low cost by kneading high-carbon content fine metal powder having an oxide film on the surface with water, molding the mixture and drying the molding, then sintering the molding. CONSTITUTION:The high-carbon content fine metal powder (preferably (iron powder having about >=3% carbon content and <=30mu grain size) having the oxide film on the surface is kneaded with the water or an aq. soln. medium and the mixture is molded. The molding is then dried to form the uniform suboxide film on the surface thereof and is heated to about >=700 deg.C. The oxide film is removed as carbon dioxide by reaction with the carbon at this time. The remaining oxygen is removed as well by bringing the same into reaction with the gaseous hydrogen in a furnace in a calcination stage. The sintered metal body having high quality and high density is thus obtd.
