Abstract

PURPOSE:To use a high-sensitivity main magnetic pole of large magnetic saturation and to simultaneously obtain a perpendicular magnetic recording head having high recording and reproduction resolving power by forming a thin film of a superconductive material having a gap consisting of a high permeability magnetic material to the sliding surface of a single magnetic pole head for perpendicular magnetic recording. CONSTITUTION:This recording and reproducing head is formed with the thin film 1 of the superconductive material embedded with the high permeability magnetic material 2 between the gaps of the head-sliding surface and is so constituted that the magnetic flux emitted by the energized main magnetic pole 3 on the head side or the magnetic field of a magnetized magnetic recording medium 6 is passed by using only the magnetic material of the gap part. The magnetic flux of the excited main magnetic pole 3 is passed concentrically through the magnetic material formed in the gap part by the Meissner effect of the superconductive material on the head-sliding surface so that the magnetic recording medium 6 is strongly and sharply magnetized near the gap part at the time of recording. The peripheral magnetic field is shielded by the Meissner effect of the thin superconductive material film and only the magnetic field of the magnetic recording medium 6 existing near the gap is passed to the main magnetic pole 3 side.
