Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the focusing of the nearest peripheral object and to evade soft focusing in a center part by executing a process that the range-finding information in the center part where the possibility of the existence of a main object is high is made important. CONSTITUTION:According to a control signal from an MPU 6, a light emission control circuit 2 sequentially lights light projecting elements 1a-1c in a set timing. And the reflected light from the object is formed into a real image on the surface of a photodetector 3 and according to the output signal thereof, a range-finding circuit 4 sequentially calculates the distance to the object corresponding to respective range-finding points. The calculated range-finding information is read in the MPU 6 so as to compute the position of a focal point and a driving circuit 7 moves a photographic lens unit 8 to a specified position according to the computed result. In such a case, the MPU 6 compares the range-found results in the center part of an image plane and in the peripheral part of the image plane and decides the main object by executing the process that the range-finding information in the center part is made important.
