Abstract

CONSTITUTION:A brightness detecting circuit 72 detects whether or not a video signal is generated sufficiently at a terminal 301 and when low illuminance is judged, the infrared-light cut filter 12 installed in front of an image pickup element 2 is removed by an infrared-light cut filter driving device 43 and an infrared-light irradiating means 6 emits infrared light to the subject. Then a video AF circuit 5 detects a focusing point with the video signal outputted to the terminal 301 and the lens 1 is driven by a lens driving circuit 42 and a lens driving mechanism 41 and moved to the position where the contour of a subject image on the image pickup element 2 becomes sharpest. Consequently, even the object in the low-illuminance atmosphere is put in focus with high accuracy.
