Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform the focusing at high speed, by performing the coarse focusing by driving a lens driving motor by a signal from a circuit which commands coarse focusing, and next, performing fine adjustment by the signal from the circuit which detects out of focusing. CONSTITUTION:First of all, a video signal is obtained by performing the image pickup of the plane of an object by a video camera 11. The quantity of deviation of the focal point is detected by an out of focus detection circuit 18, and the value is sent to a focusing circuit 19. The focusing circuit 19 adjusts a revised quantity of lens extension by driving the lens driving motor 13. The above adjustment is the coarse adjustment, and when a lens quite shallow in depth of focal field is used, the fine adjustment is further required. Then, the quantity of deviation of the focal point is detected by the out of focus deviation detection circuit 18 based on the video signal from the video camera 11, and it is sent to the focusing circuit 19, and the fine adjustment of the lens 12 is performed by driving the lens driving motor 13. The position information of the object is sent to a robot controller 15, and is handled as information for the next operation.
