Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce fluctuation of picture angle due to movement through moving an image pickup element and focusing, by using the conventional 1st method for manual focusing and using the 2nd focusing method for the operation of the automatic focusing device. CONSTITUTION:A focus adaptive signal is picked up from a picked-up image and an image pickup element 2 is driven with a driving means 5 for focusing so as to make the signal maximum. In an automatic focusing device, a manual/automatic changeover means 7 is in automatic condition when a range ring of an optical lens 1 of a video camera 3 is a specific location, and at this automatic state, a switching means 11 introduces the focus adaptive signal to the driving means 5 to drive the image pickup element for focusing. When the automatic/ manual switching means 7 is in manual condition, the switching means 11 introduces an output difference 10 between a detected output from a pickup element position detecting means 8 and a reference position signal from a pickup element reference location generating means 9 to position the pickup element 2 to a prescribed reference position.
