Abstract

PURPOSE:To continuously focus a main object, by moving a focus detecting area an object position on a photographing screen. CONSTITUTION:When a video signal is inputted from an image pickup element 2 to a gate circuit 11, the circuit 11 obtains the video signal in a designated area in one field conforming to a gate pulse from a gate pulse generator 55. A selector 48 detects position information corresponding to the information instructed by a maximum value detecting circuit 46, and outputs it to an FF 49. The pulse information is also sent to a gate pulse generating circuit 54. A gate circuit 10 makes the pulse information pass through the designated are in one field conforming to the gate pulse from the circuit 54, a detecting circuit 7 detects the video signal, holds the peak value of the absolute value signal of a luminance component in the area, and the motor driving circuit 8 drives a motor 9 in accordance with the peak value.
