PURPOSE:To reduce the variations in the characteristics of a resistance to surge and service and the like while Bi, Sb and Si being added, by specifying both the average particle size of sodium zinc containing a predominant amount of Zn2SiO4 in a sintered body, and the particle size distribution with respect to the specified range of the average particle size. CONSTITUTION:In a sintered body with voltage-dependent nonlinearity which contains at least Si constituent in addition to ZnO as a principal constituent, the average particle size of sodium zinc containing a predominant amount of Zn2SiO4 in the sintered body is specified in the range of 2-10mum, and the particle size in the range of 1/2-2 times as large as the average particle size is made to form more than 70% in the particle size distribution. As a result, the current flow through the sintered body can be uniform, the variations in the electrical characteristics can be reduced, and the characteristics of a resistance to surge and service life and the like can be good.
