Abstract

PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the wear resistance of the claw part of the title fork by forming a high-hardness induction-hardened layer and an Ni-based metals plating layer contg. the hard particles of beta-SiC, BN, etc., on the surface of the claw part of the steel shift fork to be used in the manual speed change gear of an automobile. CONSTITUTION:The wear resistance of the claw part 4 at the tip of the fork part 3 of the steel shift fork used in the manual speed change gear of an automobile is required, since the claw part 4 is brought into sliding contact with a gear coupling sleeve. The surface of the steel base material 10 of the claw part 4 is induction-hardened to form a hardened layer having 500-850Hv hardness in >=0.5mm thickness. The surface of the hardened layer 11 is cleaned, degreased, and pickled by the conventional method. The plating film 12 of an Ni-P alloy 12A contg. beta-SiC 12B alone having 0.65mum mean particle diameter or contg. the beta-SiC 12B and BN 12C having 7.5mum mean particle diameter is plated in >=5mum thickness. As a result, the sliding surface of the claw part 4 has high hardness, and hence the shift fork having excellent wear resistance can be produced.
