Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a C-Mn-type cast steel for low temp. use excellent in mechanical properties and weldability even in the case of thick-walled state, by specifying a composition consisting of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, Nb, Cu, Al, P, S, and Fe and also specifying compositional relations. CONSTITUTION:A C-Mn-type cast steel for low temp. use has a composition which consists of, by weight, 0.09-0.18% C, <=0.60% Si, 1.00-1.50% Mn, 0.10-0.50% Cr, 0.10-0.50% Ni, 0.01-0.05% Nb, 0.10-0.50% Cu, <=0.06% Al, <=0.020% P, <=0.010% S, and the balance essentially Fe and in which the condition that parameter P0 determined by an equation P0=2.6Mn+Ni-3.6C-1.3 Si-1.1Cr-0.9Cu and carbon equivalent Ceq determined by an equation Ceq=C+ Mn/6+(Cr+Mo+V)/5+(Cu+Ni)/15 are >=1.8 and <=0.44, respectively, is satisfied. This cast steel is capable of providing yield strength and toughness entirely satisfactory in respect of safety even if used in a thick-walled state, and further, this cast steel has superior weldability.
