Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the sufficient impression of the magnetic field from an electromagnet with small current to the beam-irradiated part of a magnetic film by forming a lubricating layer which is capable of coming into contact with the electromagnet on the surface of a protective layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer 3, a recording layer 4 and the protective layer 5 are laminated and formed on a substrate 2 and the lubricating layer 11 is formed on the surface of the protective layer 5. Namely, this lubricating layer 11 is provided in order to be brought into contact with the electromagnet 8 while the effect of the protective layer 5 is maintained. The electromagnet 8 can, therefore, be brought into direct contact with the lubricating layer 11 and the spacing between the electromagnet 8 and the magnetic layer 3 is reduced to more than half the spacing of the conventional medium. The magnetic field from the electromagnet 8 is thereby impressed sufficiently with the small current to the part of the magnetic layer 3 projected with the focused laser beam 7.
