Abstract

PURPOSE:To dispose an external magnet in proximity to the surface of a magneto-optical disk and execute lap writing of the magneto-optical disk by magnetic field modulation by providing a protective film having lubricity on the uppermost surface layer of the disk. CONSTITUTION:The protective film 3 consisting of SiO2, etc., is formed between a pregroove pattern layer 2 consisting of a UV curing resin on a glass substrate 1 and a recording medium layer 4 and furthermore, the protective film 5 consisting of the same material is formed between the recording medium 4 and the uppermost protective film 6 as well. The film 6 is formed by incorporating a carbon fluoride lubricating agent into an org. resin such as epoxy resin and forming the film thereof by a spin coating method, etc. The magneto-optical disk 7 provided with the protective film having such lubricity on the surface can be disposed with the external magnet in proximity thereto and, therefore, the lap writing of the information by modulating the magnetic field of a magnetic head 9 under the irradiation of laser light 8 like DC thereto is permitted.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Summary] The present invention is aimed at recording and erasing information without waiting for one rotation of the disk in a magneto-optical disk that records information using magnetization reversal. In order to perform so-called overwriting, a lubricating protective film is provided on the disk medium surface, and overwriting is directly performed using an external magnet for magnetization reversal.

As is well known, in magneto-optical disks, the coercive force of the film is increased by irradiating the recording film, which is a perpendicularly magnetized film, with laser light and locally heating the film, as typified by rare earth 7-transition metal amorphous alloys. Information is erased and written by reducing the magnetic field and changing the direction of magnetization using an external magnetic field.

Normally, when erasing information, an external magnetic field is applied in one direction (for example, downward to the disk) and a laser beam is irradiated in a DC manner, that is, in a non-pulsed manner, and the direction of magnetization follows the direction of the external magnetic field. They will be aligned uniformly (downward) and will be in an erased state. Information is written in the opposite direction (for example, upwards with respect to the disk) to that during erasing by applying an n field and turning the laser beam ON and OFF, that is, by irradiating the laser beam in a pulsed manner. In this case, the recording film is heated when the laser beam is turned on, the coercive force of that part decreases, the magnetization direction aligns with the direction of the external magnetic field (upwards with respect to the disk), and information is recorded. Therefore,
Normally, information is recorded by first erasing the information, then reversing the direction of the magnetic field and modulating the laser beam. Therefore,
There is a waiting time for the disk to rotate, and rewriting information requires at least two rotations of time, which poses a problem when used as a high-speed memory.

Conventionally, attempts have been made to shorten the disk rotation waiting time by using a plurality of optical heads, for example, as shown in FIG. 3. That is, in the illustrated example, the recording head 21 and the erasing head 22 are arranged to face the center of the magneto-optical disk 17, so that information can be recorded and erased in one rotation of the disk. Reference numerals 11 and 12 in the figure are magnets for reversing the magnetic field for recording and erasing information, respectively. However, even in this example, overwriting of information in the original sense is not possible, and therefore it is desired to provide a magneto-optical disk on which information can be overwritten.

Note that it is not possible to overwrite information because the focus of previously formed information is not completely removed when erasing, and therefore, when new information is written, old pits and new pits are mixed, and the new information is mixed. This refers to a situation where old information is mixed together.

In magneto-optical disks, information is recorded and erased by heating the recording film and changing the direction of the external magnetic field. Therefore, if the magnetic field is modulated while irradiating the laser beam in a DC manner, it is possible to change the magnetic field by the external magnet. Overwriting is possible by adjusting the orientation upward or downward relative to the disk. However, in order to change the direction of the external magnetic field at a recording information signal frequency of usually 1 to 5 MHz, it is necessary to bring the magnet close to the disk, and when a head for a magnetic disk is used as the magnet, the gap between the two must be 0.5 MHz. It is necessary to make it 5 μm or less. In this case, the magnetic head comes into contact with the disk when the disk starts and stops rotating, and destruction of the disk becomes a major problem.

A photopolymer is applied to a film thickness of 3 on a glass disk 1 as a substrate.
Spin coded at 0 μm. The photopolymer used here was 5A1002 manufactured by Mitsubishi Yuka Fine (11J) using penzoin in butyl ether as a sensitizer in an amount of 3%. The photopolymer was cured by irradiating it with 365 nm purple light (1500 W) for 30 seconds. A pregroup pattern layer 2 was formed. Next, on this pre-group pattern layer 2, a first protective film 3 of Tb (FeCo
) was formed by sputtering to a thickness of 90 nm to form the recording medium layer 4, and the same ZnS was formed by sputtering to a thickness of 85 nm to form the second protective film 5. Finally, a mixture of epoxy resin (Epicoat 828 manufactured by Yuka Shell Epoxy Co., Ltd.) and fluorinated carbon-based lubricant (Krytxx manufactured by DuPont) was spin-coded.
By baking, a top protective film 6 with a thickness of 100 nm is formed.
was deposited. In this way, the illustrated magneto-optical disk was obtained.
