Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having durability by using a resin having the OH group of vinyl alcohol system obtd. by saponifying a copolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, monomer of vinyl system and/or allyl system having an epoxy group and/or monomer having a sulfonic acid group and/or the metal salt group thereof as a chief material. CONSTITUTION:The resin having the OH group of the vinyl alcohol system prepd. by saponifying the copolymer of the respective components consisting of 65-95wt.% vinyl chloride unit, 0-5wt.% vinyl acetate unit, 3-15wt.% vinyl alcohol unit, 1-10wt.% vinyl and/or ally unit having the epoxy group, and 0.1-5wt.% monomer unit having the sulfonic acid group and/or the metal salt group thereof is used as the chief material and the average degree of polymerization thereof is selected at 200-800. The binder formed in such a manner is used at 8-30pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. fine ferromagnetic powder and is uniformly dispersed into said powder. The excellent dispersibility, packability, compatibility, and thermal stability of the magnetic powder are obtd. and the stable recording medium having the good durability is obtd. according to this constitution.
