Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a vertical type magnetic recording medium suitable for high-density recording by constituting the cobalt-chromium vertical type magnetic recording medium by adding rhodium of less than specified acount in the recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: Rhodium of less than 18atom% is added into a cobalt-chromium vertical type magnetic recording medium of a cobalt-chromium magnetized film as the third element. By this addition, the dispersion angle of the C axis of a crystal is reduced and a magnetic film having the axis which can be readily magnetized to the direction perpendicular to the film surface and be formed. If the amount of rhodium exceeds 18atom%, the orientation of the C axis is divided into two directions. As a result the dispersion angle becomes large, and it is not desirable as a vertical type magnetizing medium.
