Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of magnetic powder and the durability of a recording medium by using a binder into which a hydrophilic group is introduced as a binder of a magnetic coating compd. CONSTITUTION:A magnetized layer is provided on a base and the fine powder of the ferromagnetic material which is added with an org. metal compd. of zircoaluminate having aluminum and zirconium atoms. and is subjected to a surface treatment is dispersed uniformly in the binder having the metal salt group of sulfonic acid and is incorporated into said layer. A polyurethane resin, polyester resin, vinyl chloride resin, nitrocellulose, etc., is used for the binder having the metal salt group of the sulfonic acid. As a result, the need for the addition of a low mol.wt. surfactant to the binder is eliminated and the good dispersibility is obtd.; in addition, the magnetic characteristics are improved.
