Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a soluble matter from being expanded/contracted during repetitive conducting operations of overcurrents, by using a superconductive material as the soluble matter in a current-limiting fuse so that conduction is performed without heat generation. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of an outer cylinder 1 made of an insulating material of porcelain or the like are enclosed by circular side plates 2, 3. Terminals 4, 5 are protruded at nearly central parts of one-sided planes of both the side plates 2, 3. This outer cylinder 1, and both the side plates 2, 3 are used to form an extinction chamber 6. A soluble matter 7 is made of a superconductive material and disposed inside the extinction chamber 6, and both ends of the soluble matter 7 are electrically connected to the terminals 4, 5 respectively with both side plates 2, 3 in between. The extinction chamber 6 is filled with extinction sand 8. Because of no heat generation during conduction of a load current, the soluble matter 7 can be prevented from being expanded/contracted during repetitive conducting operations of overload currents, so that the soluble matter 7 is not worn/broken. Since conduction of a large current is rendered possible by a small soluble matter, a current-limiting fuse can be made small.
