Abstract

PURPOSE: To supply a molten metal to a water-cooled mold being arranged at the lower portion of a tundish at a proper temperature and to improve the quality of a metal product by adjusting the temperature of the molten metal in a container body due to heat being generated by a heating body made of conductive ceramics. CONSTITUTION: The conductivity of electrical heating elements 7 and 10 with zirconia as a main constituent is secured by preheating the electrical heating element 7 of a heater device 6 and the electrical heating element 10 of a heater device 9 of the heater device 6 being buried into a refractory layer 1d of a tundish 1 at approximately 1,300 deg.C. The molten metal of iron steel at a high temperature of 1,400-1,600 deg.C is shifted to an injection port 1a of the tundish 1, and the electrical heating elements 7 and 10 and the molten metal are brought into contact and current is allowed to flow in the thickness direction of the electrical heating elements 7 and 10. As a result, the electrical heating elements 7 and 10 with zirconia and magnesium as main constituents generate heat and the molten metal in the tundish 1 is heated for controlling temperature.
