Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a battery with high energy density by providing an auxiliary battery with a separate reaction tank from a reaction tank between an electrolyte storage tank and the reaction tank. CONSTITUTION:A pump 52 feeding a positive electrode liquid to an auxiliary battery 44 is stopped when the charging of a main battery is started, zinc ions in the positive electrode liquid and a negative electrode liquid are unbalanced as the charging progresses, the operation of a positive electrode liquid circulating pump 52 is started when zinc ions in the negative electrode liquid are lacking, and the operation of the auxiliary battery 44 is started at the same time. Bromine in an electrolyte is transferred from a negative electrode side reaction tank 110b to a positive electrode side reaction tank 110a in the auxiliary battery 44. The self-discharge quantity in the reaction tank of the main battery is thereby decreased to allow sufficient charging, and the battery with increased charge quantity, little self-discharge quantity, and high energy density is obtained.
