Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the extent of exhaust gas recirculating control precision by installing two exhaust valves in one cylinder, making the exhaust valve on one side operable so as to cause a suction-exhaust overlap to become larger, and installing a flow control valve in an exhaust passage extending from an exhaust port of this exhaust valve. CONSTITUTION:Two exhaust valves 4 and 5 are installed in a cylinder 1, and each of exhaust ports 7a and 7b is extending from respective exhaust valves 4 and 5. Timing of the exhaust valve 4 is made selectable with a mode operating at the same valve opening timing with the exhaust valve 5 and another mode delaying the valve closing timing and operating it in making a suction- exhaust overlap larger. In the exhaust port 7a of the exhaust valve 4, there is provided with a flow control valve 8, and at an intermediate load area of an engine, the exhaust valve 4 is selected to a mode where the suction-exhaust overlap becomes larger, while opening of the flow control valve 8 is controlled according to load, and control over an EGR value by a backflow of exhaust gas is carried out.
