Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled fiber having excellent stability and various color tones and useful as reinforcing fiber, etc., in high efficiency at a low cost, by compounding simple substance or oxide of one or more coloring elements to a mixture of a Ti compound and a K compound and melting the obtained composition.
CONSTITUTION: A Ti compound forming TiO2 with heat is mixed with a K compound forming K2O with heat to obtain a mixture having a TiO2/K2O molar ratio of about 2. The mixture is compounded with 0.1W5wt.% (in terms of simple substance in the case of oxide) of one or more simple substances or oxides of coloring elements selected from Co, Fe, Cu, V, Ni and Mn. The starting raw material produced by the above process is melted with heat and the obtained fibrous solid is subjected to the removal of potassium, drying and baking to obtain a colored potassium titanate fiber having green color (e.g. in the case of using Co as the coloring element).
