Abstract

PURPOSE: To prolong the service life of a cutting blade and eliminate the reduction of wall thickness, keep cutting width constant and enhance cutting accuracy by protruding many hard particles from the hard layer of the surface of the blade.
CONSTITUTION: The thickness of a blade shall be 150μm to 300μm. This blade comprises a hard layer 13 formed, which comprises hard particles 12 dispersed in multiple layers in metallic deposit 11 at both sides or the edge section of one side of a belt-like base metal 10 made of stainless steel or the like. The blade is reciprocated being supplied with grinding liquid mixed with free abrasive grains 16 made of SiC softer than the hard particles 12 of the brade being brought into contact with such workpiece W as a semiconductor ingot or the like to grind the workpiece with the free abrasive grains 16 in grinding liquid made to enter between the blade and workpiece W. At this time, the contact of the metallic deposit 11 and free abrasive grains 16 is considerably reduced by the hard particles 12, and the wear of the hard particles 12 themselves becomes extremely little resulting in prolonging of the service life of the blade. At the same time, the reduction of the wall thickness of the blade is almost eliminated, and cutting width is not changed. This leads to the improvement of cutting accuracy.
