Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a cutting blade with a thin edge, sharpness, remarkably improved life and easinese in handling by forming grooves on both the face and the back of a metal base at an adequate interval and fixing superhard abrasive in each groove.
CONSTITUTION: Grooves 5a, 5b..., 6a, 6b... are formed alternately at an interval (d) between each groove, along the range starting from the edge and covering the face and the back of a thin metal base 4. The depth of each groove, formed by photoetching or discharge processing should be more than 50% of thickness of the metal base 4, but where strength of the base 4 can be maintained, while desirable depth is considered about 75% of said thickness. The abrasive is fixed to each groove, for example, through electrodeposition with its upper face projected from the face and the back of the metal base 4. With this composition, the edge being thin and sharp, cutting being possible until wear of the embeded abrasive, the life as a cutting blade is remarkably increased.
