Abstract

Then, under this condition, heating of the material 5 to be treated, supplying of treating gas and generating of glow discharge between the material 5 to be treated and an anode 2 are executed, to execute the ion carburization or ion nitriding. Then, as the material 5 to be treated is supported on the cathode 12 apart from the supporting body 11, the flow of the treating gas at lower part of the material 5 to be treated and heat transfer from a heater 7 are good and the dispersion of the depth of the carburization and the nitriding can be reduced.
