Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to provide a remarkable change in resistance values of ferrite carrier particles and readily obtain a toner image of desired image quality, by changing an oxygen partial pressure in a firing atmosphere in producing magnetic carrier particles of a ferrite consisting of a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic carrier particles of a ferrite having a composition represented by the general formula (MO)100-X(Fe2O3)X expressed in terms of bivalent or trivalent metallic oxides are produced by firing. In the process, the oxygen partial pressure in a firing atmosphere is changed so as to provide a copied toner image of desired image quality and afford a desired value of particle resistance. In the above-mentioned formula, M represents any of Mn, Zn, Mn+Zn, Mn+Mg, Mn+Mg+Zn, Mn+Mg+Cu and Mn+Mg+Zn+Cu, provided that the atomic ratio of Mn in M is <=0.05 if M contains Mn and one or more other elements. Furthermore, if M contains Mg, the atomic ratio of Mg in M is <0.05. In addition, x is >53mol.%.
