Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a stable and uniform colored surface which withstands molding after coloration with a relatively simple operation by immersing Ti (alloy) into an oxidative melt bath. CONSTITUTION:The Ti (alloy) material 1 delivered from a pay-off reel 2 is immersed in the melt bath of a fused salt bath 4 and the colored surface of various color tones is formed on the surface by controlling the immersion temp., more particularly the treatment time. The above-mentioned melt is >=1 kinds among nitrate, dichromate, permanganate, and hydroxide such as NaOH and the immersion is preferably executed while the melt bath is kept stirred. The Ti (alloy) material 1 is a band material and is preferably immersed continuously in the melt bath while tension is exerted thereto in the longitudinal direction. The Ti (alloy) material 1 is stably and uniformly colored in a short period of time by such method; in addition, the colored surface is not impaired even if the material is subjected to molding after the coloration. The Ti (alloy) material, therefore, lends itself to various applications by being subjected to molding after the coloration.
