Abstract

PURPOSE: To form color chemical conversion coating films of superior adhesion and corrosion resistance through PR electrolysis treatment of plated products of copper and copper alloys.
CONSTITUTION: Copper, copper alloys or plated products of these metals are subjected to PR electrolysis in an aqueous solution by alternately supplying direct current and inverse current. Then, copper melts first at the anode and active surfaces are exposed. At the same time, oxygen of nascent state is produced. When polarity changes to the cathode, the copper does not change and hydrogen is produced. Namely, oxidation progresses in the state of being normally activated by the anode and the colored film such as of metal suboxides, etc. such as of cuprous oxide, etc. is formed on the surface of the plated products. The color tone of this film changes to brown-blue-gold-red-dark blue along with progress of oxidation. This method facilitates control of color tones and evens the quality.
