Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify a superconducting magnet device and to lower a cost by a method wherein an auxiliary superconducting magnet is formed to be a closed circuit where a persistent current flows, a means to keep a superconducting state is installed and the excitation is executed by being coupled magnetically with a main superconducting magnet so that an excitation power supply and a power lead for the auxiliary superconducting magnet can be made unnecessary. CONSTITUTION:Auxiliary superconducting magnets 3 and 3' are heated by using heaters 5 and 5' ; while they are kept in a normal conducting state, a main superconducting magnet 2 is excited until a prescribed magnetic field is reached. The heaters 5 and 5' are turned off and the auxiliary superconducting magnets 3 and 3' are returned to a superconducting state; after that, the main superconducting magnet 2 is demagnetized, and a power supply 4 is turned off. At this stage, a leakage magnetic field of the main superconducting magnet 2 remains captured at the auxiliary superconducting magnets 3 and 3'. If, in this state, a polarity of the power supply 4 is reversed and the main superconducting magnet 2 is excited until the prescribed magnetic field is reached, a diamagnetic current is caused at the auxiliary superconducting magnets 3 and 3', and the already captured magnetic field is strengthened further. At this stage, a distribution of the magnetic field produced by a whole superconducting magnet device 1 is reproduced; the magnetic field at an external periphery of the main superconducting magnet 2 is weakened.
