Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the effective width of a glass tube without obstructing the light to be effectively radiated outside the tube by arranging a getter near the flare of an electrode part and further setting the direction of evaporation of the getter to the tube end portion side. CONSTITUTION:A ring-shaped holding container 1 for a getter is attached to the circumferential portion of a flare 4 and its opening is directed to the tube end portion side. The container 1 is also fixed on the flare with a strut 6 fixed to a lead wire 3. This causes the direction of vaporization of a getter, namely the direction of an opening of the ring-shaped holding container 1, to be directed to the tube end portion side. As a result, while the vaporized getter adheres to the glass tube, the position of the adhesion is located apart from electrical discharge passage covering a filament 2. As a result, the vaporized getter does not obstruct illumination light to be effectively radiated outside the tube and an effective width of the glass tube is not narrowed.
