Abstract

918,753. Lamp caps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 20, 1961 [Oct. 24, 1960], No. 37700/61. Class 38 (1). An electric lamp comprises a bulb 1 having an exhaust tube 8 surrounded by a stem tube 9 terminating in a pinch 5, a current supply wire 18 extending from the pinch 5 to a central cup contact 21 and a current supply wire 10 extending from pinch 5 to a side contact 15 structurally separate from the central contact which is supported by the end 19 of the exhaust tube 8 remote from the pinch 5. Wire 18 may be constructed to form a fuse in which case it is preferably surrounded by an additional close-fitting glass tube (not shown) arranged outside exhaust tube 8. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the edge of the centre contact cap is provided with a flange of insulating material the outer circumference of which bears on the conical outer end of the stem tube to provide lateral support for the exhaust tube. Both current supply wires extend between the stem and exhaust tubes and may form fuses and the space between the stem tube and the exhaust tube may be filled wholly or in part with arc quenching material. Contact 15 may comprise a metal shell, a sprayed-on layer or a thin foil.
