Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve film stability by alternately laminating plural layers of amorphous films of rare earth-transition metals having axes of easy magnetization and protective films consisting of materials selected from W, Si, etc., and having specific film thicknesses, thereby forming a magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:The amrophous magnetic film 2 which consists of the rare-earth metals and transition metals and exhibit perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is provided on a substrate 1 and the thin protective films 3 which have <=200Angstrom film thickness and consist of at least one kind selected from W, Si, Cr, Mo, Ti, Ta, and B are provided on the top and bottom of the film 2. Plural layers of the films 2 and the films 3 are alternately laminated. The deterioration of the magnetic films by the oxidation corrosion thereof is thereby prevented and the magneto-optical recording medium having the excellent film stability over a long period of time is thereby obtd.
