Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a homogeneous Zn alloy plated metallic material having superior formability and corrosion resistance with superior productivity by forming a plating layer of a Zn alloy contg. prescribed amts. of Ti and one or more among Cr, Co, Mn, Mg, Ni, etc., on the surface of a metallic base material by vacuum deposition. CONSTITUTION:A plating layer consisting of 5-40wt.% Ti, 0.5-5wt.% in total of one or more among Cr, Co, Mn, Mg (<5%), Ni and Al and the balance essentially Zn is formed on the surface of a metallic base material by vacuum deposition. When the plating layer is formed on the surface of the metallic base material such as a steel sheet, the internal pressure of a plating apparatus is set at <=about 10<-2>Torr and the preheating temp. of the steel sheet at 150-300 deg.C. While Zn, Ti and the above-mentioned added alloying elements are simultaneously evaporated by heating from separate crucibles in the plating apparatus, the preheated steel sheet is travelled over the crucibles. Thus, a Zn alloy plated metallic material having superior corrosion resistance and formability is obtd.
