Abstract

PURPOSE:To develop an inexpensive Cu alloy for cable conductor excellent in strength and bending resistance, by adding specific amounts of Zn and small amounts of Ni, Si, Ti, etc., to Cu and alloying them. CONSTITUTION:A Cu-Zn-type conductive Cu alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 5-40% Zn, 0.2-2.0%, in total, of one or >=2 elements among Ni, Si, and Ti, and the balance Cu. This Cu alloy is improved in strength and bending characteristics by the addition of Zn to Cu excellent in electric conductivity and further improved in bending characteristics to a greater extent by the addition of Ni, Si, and Ti and has >=5% elongation. The surface of a cable conductor made of the above Cu alloy is coated with Sn or Sn-Pb alloy to improve solderability, by which the Cu-Zn alloy used in a moving part to be subjected to repeated stress of bending, tension, tortion, etc., excellent in bending resistance, and suitable for cable conductor material can be developed.
