Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the temperature rise of a detecting element due to the generation of Joule heat and improve the measuring accuracy by making an exciting current for the detecting element pulse-like and reducing the rate of a pulse width in a cycle period.
CONSTITUTION: Detecting elements 1 and 2 are constituted by applying windings to ferromagnetic pieces made of a material having a small coercive force and a large maximum permeability, for example, a cobalt amorphous alloy. A pulse- like exciting current having the small rate of a pulse width in a cycle period is supplied to the detecting elements 1 and 2 from a high frequency power supply 11 to magnetize the elements 1 and 2 over a saturated magnetic flux value. The detecting elements 1 and 2 are connected in a bridge. A difference between the inductances of the elements 1 and 2 brought about by an external magnetic field is outputted from the output end of the bridge. The external magnetic field is detected from the inductance difference.
