Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively reduce and refine high pure gold by electrolyzing an iodine compound contg. soln., bringing iodine or iodine compound generated in an anode chamber into reaction with material gold and furthermore converting it into strong alkali with caustic alkali in a cathode chamber. CONSTITUTION:The iodine compound contg. electrolytic soln. is applied to diaphragm electrolysis in an electrolysis cell 4 to independently generate caustic alkali in the cathode chamber 3 and iodine in the anode chamber 12. The material gold and said iodine and/or iodine compound are brought into reaction with in a reaction cell 12 to obtain the soln. contg. the iodine compound of gold. The unmolten products in said soln. are removed in a removing cell 17 by filtration or sedimentation and are thereafter fed into a reduction cell 15. Caustic alkali in said cathode chamber 3 is then introduced and added thereto to convert said soln. into strong alkali of >=12 pH. By this method, said iodine compound of gold is converted into metallic gold and is selectively reduced and deposited. Said metallic gold is separated by a centrifugal separator 25 to obtain refined gold. The soln. which has separated metallic gold is circulated into said electrolysis cell 4 and is reutilized.
