Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily assemble an optical semiconductor device and receptacle by providing an outside wall which has an extremely simple structure and projects from the lens of the optical semiconductor device. CONSTITUTION:A lens 3 which optically couples an optical semiconductor element 1 and a fiber 24, a holding part 5 which holds the lens 3 at a specified distance from the semiconductor element 1, and a projecting part 4 which is formed integrally with the holding part 5 and projects from the lens 3 so as to be pressed to the fixing means of the fiber to define the distance between the lens 3 and the fiber are provided. Since the optical semiconductor device has the lens 3 on the central axis thereof and the outside wall 4 projecting from the lens 3, the assembly of the optical semiconductor device and the receptacle without using a spacer is possible if the size of the outside wall 4 is so determined as to bring the focus to the end face of the fiber 24 when the device is assembled to the receptacle.
