Abstract

PURPOSE:To highly accurately and stably detect a drift by storing a window waveform in a memory for phase comparison frequency generation and comparing the window waveform with a phase of the input so as to discriminate coincidence/discrepancy. CONSTITUTION:In a frequency synthesizer provided with a drift detection circuit, a ROM 25 is controlled by address information generated by a frequency divider 24 from an output of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) 23 and a phase difference between an input clock IN and a phase comparison clock CLK outputted from the ROM 25 is detected by a phase comparator 21. Then an output signal of the phase comparator 21 through an LPF 22 is used for a control voltage of the VCO 23 to obtain an output clock OUT. Through the constitution above, if a drift takes place, the input clock IN and the window are overlapped. If the leading edge of the input clock IN and the window are overlapped, a Q output ALM of the FF 26 goes to '1' to detect the drift.
