Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a titled element which has no absorption in a visible region and has a high nonlinear optical effect, more particularly nonlinear optical effect of second order by forming said element of a crystal material contg. 3-aminopyridine. CONSTITUTION:This element consists of the crystal material contg. at least the 3-aminopyridine. The 3-aminopyridine has 291nm max. absorption wavelength and since the absorption end thereof exists near 360nm, the crystal material which is transparent in the visible region is obtd. The absorption of a semiconductor laser having the wavelength in the order of 800nm to second harmonic wave is, therefore, not observed and the optical wavelength converting element formed by using the crystal of the 3-aminopyridine has accordingly the excellent conversion efficiency to the second harmonic waves and exhibits good photostability. The 3-aminopyridine may be used as a single component crystal or may be used as the crystal mixture with the other org. nonlinear optical materials.
