CONSTITUTION:On a substrate 1, a waveguide 2 consisting of a non-linear optical material is formed, and in a position on which a higher harmonic L2 which is emitted from this waveguide 2 can e made incident, the second waveguide 3 is formed, and both the waveguides 2, 3 are parallel to each other. Accordingly, to the higher harmonic light-guiding use waveguide 3, the higher harmonic L2 which is generated from the waveguide 2 is light-guided, and as for waveguide type higher harmonic generating element which is formed by a nonlinear optical material, a fundamental wave is confined into the narrow waveguide 2. In such a way, the conversion efficiency of light can be raised, and also, an interaction becomes larger in proportion to the waveguide length, therefore, by lengthening the waveguide length, a strong higher harmonic is obtained.
