Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the toughness and wear resistance at a high temp. by regulating the main hard phase of a sintered body for a tool to a high pressure phase BN, forming a bonding phase with cubic BN, wurtzite type BN and ceramic composite products having specific compsn. and optimizing the grain size of said sintered body. CONSTITUTION:In the sintered body for a tool, the main hard phase is regulated to the high pressure phase BN and is formed with 30-80vol.%. The residual bonding phase is formed with the ternary mixture of Ti expressed by a chemical formula 1, one or more kinds of mixtures among the compounds expressed by a chemical formula II (in the formula II, M denotes transition metals of 4a, 5a, 6a group) and the mixture of one or more kinds among Al, Fe, Co and Ni or the mixture of the reaction products between these elements and the high pressure phase BN, etc. The high pressure phase BN is formed with 65-95% cubic BN having <=15mu average grain size. The components expressed by the formula 1 is furthermore regulated to 50-99% in the bonding phase. The ratio of the average grain size to the average grain space is regulated to 0.2-2 in the wurtzite type BN polycrystal grains dispersing in the bonding phase. Said sintered body is suitable as a tool for finish working of a carburizing gear, etc.
