Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a porous article of a hydrophilic polymer having micropores adjustable by the amount of a surfactant and directed parallel to the direction of the thickness, by adding a surfactant to an aqueous liquid of a hydrophilic polymer and freeze-drying the mixture. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aqueous solution, a uniform aqueous suspension or their mixture of a hydrophilic polymer (e.g. casein, cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol) having a concentration of 0.05-50%, preferably 0.1-10% is added with (B) a surfactant (which does not cause coagulation reaction with the component A) having an HLB value of preferably 2-20 at a ratio of 0.1-100%, preferably 0.5-50% based on the dry weight of the component A. The mixture is poured into a tray in an amount to attain a product thickness of 5-100mm, preferably 20-70mm, completely frozen and then dried to obtain a porous article of hydrophilic polymer having pores with uniform pore diameter and directed parallel to the direction of the thickness of the product.
