Abstract

PURPOSE:To make long-time use possible by suppressing the leakage of plasma and plasma protein and to keep high gas exchange capacity, by using a porous membrane whose pore part is closed by a hydrogel as a gas exchange membrane. CONSTITUTION:A gas exchange membrane is composed of a porous membrane 1 wherein numberless pores 3 are formed in a porous membrane base material. A water absorbable polymer material 4 capable of being converted to a hydrogel is bonded to at least a part of said pores 3 and converted to the hydrogel at the time of use to close pores 4. As such a state that the piercing pores of the porous membrane used in an oxygenator are closed, it is pref. that the water permeation amount of the porous membrane subjected to hydrophylic treatment is 10<-5>ml/min.cm<2> or less.
