Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a short-circuit current and then the generation of heat by adding a function which detects the drop of the output voltage and changes the bias state to a current limiting transistor. CONSTITUTION:The output of a comparator 20 has a low level when the output voltage is higher than a prescribed level and therefore both transistors (TR) 119 and TR 4 are turned off. Thus the difference characteristics between a peak output current and the input/output voltage can draw a sufficient output current even to the input voltage of a high level. Then the output of the comparator 20 is changed to a high level and both TR 19 and TR 4 are turned on when a current limiting Tr 9 is actuated by the overload (output short circuit, etc.) and the output voltage drops. Thus a resistance 2 is short-circuited and the TR 9 is further turned on the therefore an output short-circuit current can be extremely reduced.
