Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は油、ヒドロキシル基含有石鹸増粘剤及び長鎖ア
ルコール類のホウ酸エステルよりなり、適宜リン成分及
び硫黄成分を含有するグリース組成物に関する。
アルコール類及びアルコール類の混合物は種々の潤滑剤
添加物を製造する際の中間体として使用されているが、
添加剤としてのアルコール類自身の使用はアルコール類
が潜在的に酸化性をもち、熱的に不安定で、且つ揮発性
であるという難点があるために広範囲に普及してはいな
い。しかし、アルコール類の若干のポウ酸エステルは潤
滑特性の改善を提供するために工業的な潤滑剤組成物の
−・部に便用されており、Ｊた時々フｌ／　−ｑ用流体
組成物に使用される。
例えば、米国特許第２，１６０，９１７号明細書は成分
”ＦＭホウ酸エステル例えばホウ酸トリフチル及びホウ
酸１へリラウリルを含む炭素原子４〜１２１１Ｉをもつ
ポウ酸エステルを含有する潤滑剤を記載している。他の
特許は米国特許第３，０１４，８７０号（アミンとホウ
酸モノニスデル及びホウ酸ジエステルの混合物）；米国
特許第３，１０８，９６６号（ホウ酸アリールエステル
及びチオ酸エステル潤滑剤）：米国特許第３．１３３、
．９５１号（ホウ酸ジアルキルエステル含有撚Ｐ＋　＞
　；米１ｉＪ特許第３．：＋４７，７９３号（ポウ酸第
３アルキルエステル）：及び米国特許第３，５０９，０
５４号（ホウ素と２．６−ジアルキルフェノールのエス
テル）を包含する。
本発明は主要星のグリース、及び一般式Ｒ，ＯＨＦ式中
、ＲはＣ”−＋　ｏ＝　Ｃｓ。の炭化水素基（ハイドロ
カルビル基）である］て表される長鎖アルコールとポウ
素化音物例えばホウ酸、ポウ素酸化物、メタポウ酸塩ま
たは一般式（Ｒ■Ｏ）ｘＢ　（ＯＴ−１）ｙ（式中、に
は１または２または３であり、ｙは０または１または２
であり、Ｘとｙの合計が３であり、ＲＩずなわち各ＲＩ
は炭素原子１〜６個をもつアルキル基である）で表され
るホウ酸アルキルとの反応によって製造した少割合量の
化合物よりなるグリース組成物において、グリース組成
物が少なくとも約１５重量％のヒドロキシル基含有増粘
剤を含む増粘剤を含有することを特徴とするグリース組
成物を提供するにある。本発明のグリース組成物は他の
増粘剤て増粘した組成物と比較してかなり高い滴点をも
つことが観察された。リン成分及び硫黄成分が存在する
とより高い満点さえも提供する。
アルコールは過ホウ酸含有、ずなわち化学量論量以上の
ホウ素を含有するポウ酸エステル化生成物が好適である
。
Ｒは線状アルキル基、枝分われ鎖アルキル基、環状脂肪
族基、アラルキル基、アルカリル基、または少なくとも
１個の不飽和活きをもつ線状の基または枝分かれ銀基（
アルケニル基）であることができる。線状アルキル基の
中て、Ｃ１ｏ−Ｃ２ｏ基を組み合せたものが好適であり
、０１２〜Ｃ１５基の組み自せがより好適である。不飽
和結合含有基の中では、オレイル基及びリルイル基並び
に炭素原子数１５〜３０個の不飽和活きをもつ基、それ
らの混合物及び飽和基との混合物が好適である。
ホウ酸エステル化に使用できる若干のアルコ−。
ル類はドデシルアルコール、テトラデシルアルコール、
ペンタデシルアルコール、ヘキサデジルアルコール、オ
クタデシルアルコール、イソオクタデシルアル：１−ル
、オレイルアルコール、０１２〜Ｃ８５アルコール類の
混合物及びＣ２ｏ〜Ｃ２，アルコール類の混合物を包含
する。
ポウ素化音物はホウ酸、ポウ素酸化物またはホウ酸アル
キルであることがてき、ホウ酸が好適である。ホウ酸ア
ルキルはホウ酸モノメチル、ポウ酸ジメチル、ホウ酸ト
リメチル、ホウ酸モノエチル、ホウ酸ジエチル、ホウ酸
トリエチル、ホウ酸モノ１０ピル、ポウ酸ジプロピル、
ポウ酸ｌ・リプ　　　　′ロピル、ホウ酸モノブチル、
ホウ酸ジブチル、ホウ酸トリブチル、ポウ酸モノアミル
、ポウ酸ジアミル、ホウ酸１−リアミル、ホウ酸モノヘ
キシル、ホウ酸ジエキジル及びホウ酸トリへキシルグ）
ようなホウ酸モノアルキル、ホウ酸ジアルキル及びホウ
酸トリアルキルを包含する。
ホウ酸エステルを形成するための反応温度は約り００℃
〜約２６０℃であり、好適には約１２０°Ｃ〜約２００
℃である。温度のｊ１１択は大部分使用する反応剤及び
溶媒を使用するか否かに依存する。
この反応を行なう際に、アルコール／ホウ素化合物のモ
ル比が約０２／１〜約２／１、好適には約０．５／１〜
約０．９／１となるような反応剤の量を選択することが
好ましい。アルコールを過剰のホウ酸エステル化成分と
反応させて約０，１重量％から１０重量％またはそれ以
」二のホウ素を含有するホウ酸エステルを形成すること
ができる。
通常、大気圧が好適であるが、５００ｋＰａまでの圧力
下で反応を行なうことができる。更に、正常な条件下で
は溶媒を使用できる。通常、ベンゼン、トルエン、キシ
レン及び１，４−ジオキサンを含む比較的非極性の非反
応性溶媒が使用できる。
プロパツール及びブタノールを含む他の炭化水素溶媒及
びアルコール質溶媒が使用できる。所望により、アル：
Ｉ−ル質溶媒及び炭化水素溶媒の混＆ｑ勿もよたｆ重用
できる。
反応時間は臨界的なものではない３．従って、操作のい
ずれの工程も約１時間〜約２０時間の期間内に行なうこ
とかできる。
特定のクラスの増粘剤を使用して本発明のグリース組成
物を造ることができる。増粘剤は１分子当り１２個〜約
３０個の炭素原子をもつヒドロキシル基含有脂肪酸、ヒ
ドロキシル基含有脂肪酸グリセリド及びヒトｎキシル基
含有脂肪酸エステルのアルカリ金属塩（石鹸）、アルカ
リ土類金属塩（石鹸）またはアミン塩（石鹸）を少なく
とも部分的に含有するものである。金属類はすｌ・リウ
ノ＼、リチウム、カルシウム及びバリウノ＼か代表的で
あり、リチウムが好適な金属である。１２−ヒドロキシ
ステアリン酸、及び１２−ヒＩ−ロキシステアリン酸エ
ステル、１４−しドロキシステアリン酸、１６−ヒドロ
キシステアリン酸及び６−ヒｌ−ロキシステアリン酸を
含有するクリセリド類及びエステル類が好適な酸及び脂
肪質物質である。
上述の増粘剤はグリース組成物中の増粘剤の全量を構成
する必要はない。全増粘剤を基準として約１５重量％程
度の少量のヒドロキシル基含有増粘剤を使用すれば顕著
な利点が達成できる。増粘剤の残余量、すなわち約８５
重量％までが種々の他の増粘剤を本発明のグリース組成
物中に使用することができる。有用な他の増粘剤に包含
されるものはメチル−１２−ヒドロキシステアリン酸の
アルカリ金属塩（石鹸）及びアルカリ土類金属塩（石鹸
）、Ｃ１〜Ｃ１２ジカルボン酸類のジエステル類（石鹸
）、及びタル油脂肪酸く石鹸）である。１２〜３０個の
炭素原子をもち、且つ遊離のヒドロキシル基が存在しな
い他の脂肪質のアルカリ金属塩またはアルカリ土類金属
塩を使用することができる。
これらはステアリン酸及びオレイン酸の金属塩（石鹸）
を包含する。上述の増粘剤は解放型反応容器、加圧容器
または連続製造装置中で製造することができる。これら
の製造方法は全てグリースに関して通常使用さｔＩるも
のであり、増粘剤製造中または製造後にグリースを処理
するためのＮｌｉ助装置を必要とする。
他の増粘剤はステアリン酸−酢酸力ルシウノ、（米国特
許第２，１９７，２６３号）、ステアリン酸−１ＩＩ１
．酸バリウム（米国特許第２，５６４，５６１号）、ス
テアリン酸−力プリル酸−■酸カルシウム銘体（米国特
許第２．９９９，０６５号）、カプリル酸−酢酸カルシ
ウム（米国特許第２，９９９，０６６号）、及び成分子
景酸類、中分子量酸類及び高分子ｋＬ酸類及び堅果油酸
類のカルシウム塩及び石鹸のような塩及び石鹸針棒を損
金する。
他のグループの増粘剤は置換尿素、フタロシアニン、イ
ンタスレン、ペリルイミド（ｐｅｒｙ　ｌ目ｎ１ｄｅ）
、ピロメリッ１〜ジイミド（１ｉｙｒｏ＋ｎｅｌｌｉｔ
ｄｉｉ＋ｎ１ｄｅ）、及びアンメリン（ｕ＋ｎｍｅ　ｌ
　ｉ　ｎｏ）のような顔料並びに疎水性粘土よりなる。
−に連の増粘剤は初めは親水性をもつ粘土から、グリー
ス組成物の成分として使用する前に、該粘土粒子の表面
に長鎖炭化水素残基を導入するすることに、Ｌ、って、
例えば粘土をオ二ラム化合物のような有機質カチオン界
面活性剤て予備処理することによって疎水状態に変換す
ることによって調製することができる。代表的なオニウ
ム化き物はジメチルジオクタデシルアンモニウムクロリ
ドのようなテ１〜ラアルキルアンモニウムクロリド、ジ
、メチルジベンジルアンモニウムクロリドまたはそれら
の混き物である。
グリース組成物の適宜成分はリン成分及び硫黄成分であ
る。これらの成分は一般式 （式中、Ｒ２は炭素原子３〜１８１１！ｉＩをもつ炭化
水素基であり、Ｍは金属または非金属であり、１１はＭ
のイオン価であり、Ｚはそれぞれ酸素または硫黄であっ
て、少なくとも１個のＺが硫黄である）で表される金属
または非金属ホスホロジチオニー１〜のように同じ分子
中に硫黄及びリンが存在するものであってもよい。
この化自物において、Ｒ２はアルキル基か好適であり、
プロピル基、ブチル基、ペンチル基、ヘキシル基、オク
チル基、デシル基、ドデシル基、テトラデジル基または
オクタデシル基であることがてきるが、イソプロパツー
ル、ブタノール、インブタノール、第２ブタノール、４
−、メチル−２−ペンタノール、２−エチルヘキサノー
ル、オレイルアルコール及びそれらの混き物から誘導さ
れたものを含む。更に包含されるものはブチルフェニル
基、オクチルフェニル基、ノニルフェニル基及びドデシ
ルフェニル仄のようなアルカリル基である。
Ｍに包含される金属は周期表第１Ａ族、第ＪＢ族、第Ｈ
Ａ族、第１Ｔ　ｒ３族、第ＶＩＢ族及び第■族のもので
ある。、：れら金属の若干を記載すればリチウム、ナｌ
−リウノ＼、カルシラノ＼、骨釘）、カドミウム、銀、
モリブデン及び金である。非金属質イオンはビニルアセ
テートのようなビニルエステル類、ブチルビニルエーテ
ルの、１うなビニルエーテル類、及びプロピレンオキシ
ド及び１，２−エトキシドデカンのようなエポキシド類
から誘導された有機基並びにオレイルアミン及びＮ−オ
レイル−１゜３−プロピレンジアミンのようなＣ１ｏ〜
Ｃ２Ｇのハイドロカルビルアミン類及びジアミン類、イ
ミダシリン類及びオキサゾリン類から誘導された有機基
を包含する。
また、リン成分及び硫黄成分は（１）個々の炭化水素基
が２〜１０個の炭素原子をもつジハイドロ力ルビルホス
フィッ１へ類または該ホスフィツト類の混合物と（２）
硫化イソブチレン、ジベンジルジスルフィド、硫化テル
ペン類及び硫化ジョショバオイル（ｊｏｊｏｂａ　ｏｉ
ｌ）のような硫化物の併用のような２種または３種以上
の別個の化合物の併用から供給することができる。ホス
フィツトはジブチルホスフィツト、ジブチルホスフィツ
ト、ジオクチルボスフィツト等のボスフィツトを包含す
る。
トリブチルホスフェ−１−、トリデシルボスフェート及
びトリクレジルホスフェートのような炭化水素基中に４
〜２０個の炭素原子をもつリン酸エステル類もまた使用
することができる。
本発明において、増粘剤は金属ヒドロキシル基含有石鹸
または金属未含有ヒドロキシル基含有石鹸を少なくとも
１５重敗％含有し、全増粘剤は全グリース組成物の約３
重量％〜約２０重量％を構成することが好ましい。
また、グリース組成物はアルコールと好適には少なくと
も等モル景のポウ素化合物との反応により造ることがで
きるアルコールのホウ酸エステルを約０．０１重置火・
〜約１０重量％、好適には約０．１平旦％〜約２重量％
含有する。
グリース組成物はリン成分及び硫黄成分を含有する化合
物及びリン成分と硫黄成分とを別々に供給するリン含有
化合物、硫黄含有化合物または２種または３押収」−の
化合物の混合物を約０．０１重量％〜約１０重量％、好
適には約０．１重量％〜約２重量％を含有することがで
きる。別個の化合物を使用する場合、リン及び硫黄の所
望の量を供給するために必要な濃度に対応する混合物の
量を使用する。
ヒドロキシル基含有増粘剤及び長鎖アルコール類のホウ
酸エステルを含有する本発明のグリース組成物は同しグ
リースビヒクル、同じ艮鎖アルコ−ル類のホウ酸エステ
ル及び異なる増粘剤、例えばヒドロキシル基未含有増粘
剤から誘導されたグリースの滴点より予想外に高い滴点
をもっことが観察された。
通常、アルコール類のポウ酸エステル、及びリン成分及
び硫黄成分は所望の程度の摩擦低減、耐摩耗活性、酸化
防止活性、高温安定性または錆防止活性を付与するため
に有効な任意の量で使用することができる。しかし、多
くの用途において、アルコールのホウ酸エステル、及び
リン含有化合物及び／または硫黄含有化合物は合計量で
全組成物を基準として約０．０２重量％〜約２０重量％
、好適には約０．２重量％〜約４重量％の量を有効に使
用できる。
本発明のグリース組成物は鉱油、合成油またはそれらの
混合物から造ることができる。通常、パラフィン質鉱油
、ナフテン質鉱油またはそれらの混合物は例えば３８°
Ｃで約４５８ＵＳ〜３８℃で約６００Ｏ８ＵＳ、好適に
は９９℃で約５Ｏ３ＵＳ〜約２５Ｏ３ＵＳのような所定
の潤滑油粘度範囲のものであることができる。これらの
油は約１００またはそれ以上の粘度指数範囲をも−）こ
とがある。約７０〜約９５の粘度指数が好適である。上
述の油の平均分子量は約２５０〜約８００の範囲である
ことができる。グリースを製造する際に、増粘剤及び他
の添加剤成分の所望の量を添加後、全グリース組成物の
釣り合いをとるために充分な量のフリース調製用の潤滑
油を通常使用する。
鉱油の代わりに自戒油を使用する場き、種々の化合物が
利用てきる。代表的なき成ビヒクルはポリイソブチレン
、ポリブテン類、水素ｆヒポリゾセン類、ポリプロピレ
ングリコール、ポリエチレングリコール、トリメチロー
ルプロパンエステル類、ネオペンチルエステル、ペンタ
エリトリトールエステル、ジ（２−エチルヘキシル）セ
バケー１〜、ジ（２−エチルヘキシル）アジペート、シ
フチルフタレート、フルオロカーボン類、珪酸エステル
類、シラン類、リン含有酸類のエステル類、液体尿素、
フェロセン誘導体類、水素化合成油類、鎖状ポリフェニ
ル類、シロキサン類及びシリコーン類（ポリシロキサン
類）、ブチル置換ビス（１）−フェノキシフェニル）エ
ーテル類により代表されるアルキル置換ジフェニルエー
テル類、フェノキジフェニルエーテル類を包含する。
本発明のグリース組成物は周知のグリースでは得られな
い増大した滴点及び改善されたグリース稠度特性の利点
をもち、また、耐錆特性、潜在的な耐疲労性、耐摩耗性
及び耐酸化性の利点を示す。
本発明のグリース組成物はアルコールのポウ酸エステル
の添加量と鹸化完了後の完全に形成した石鹸グリースと
を単に混合することによって製造できる付加的な利点を
もつ。
以下に、実施例（以下、特記しない限り単に「例」と記
載する）を挙げ、本発明を更に説明する。
Ｃ３２〜Ｃ１５アル力ノール類混合物［シェル・ケミカ
ル・コーポレーション（ＳＩ＋ｅｌｌ　Ｃ１＋ｅ＋ａｉ
ｃａｌ　Ｃｏ、）から入手でき、ＣＩ２アルコール１７
．７％、Ｃ１゜−１６＝ アルコール３０％、Ｃ１，アルコール２８％及びＣＩ５
アルコール２４％からなる線状アルコール類を約８０％
含有し、且つ約２０８の平均分子量をもつ］約３０３２
ｇ、ポウ酸３０’ｌｆＩ及びブタノール約２５０ｇを反
応器へ装入し、内容物を水の蒸発が終了するまで約１０
時間にわたり１５５℃に加熱した。溶媒を減圧蒸留し、
生成物を珪藻上に熱いまま通してろ過した。
例□−２工峯」［例Ｊ− 密閉容器中、約１７５℃で鉱油ビヒクル（ナフテン質ス
トック／パラフィン質ストック７０／３０の混合物てＴ
　Ｓ　Ｏ１，５０の粘度等級をもつ）中で１２−しドロ
キシステアリン酸（８重１％）及びそのグリセクト（９
重里％）を含有する混合物を水酸化リチウムて鹸化する
ことによってヒドロキシステアリン酸すヂウノ＼グリー
ス増粘剤を調製した。圧力を解放し、脱水した後、解放
型反応容器中で増粘剤に鉱油を添加して約９．０％Ｉ＼
増粘剤含量低下させた。９９℃へ冷却後、アミン酸化防
止活性、フェノール質酸化防止剤、Ｃ１第２アルコ−ル
及びＣ６第１アルコールの混合物から誘導されたジチオ
リン酸亜鉛１．５％、硫黄含有金属失活剤及び窒素含有
耐錆添加剤よりなる代表的なグリース添加剤パッケージ
を添加した。
叶−１ 例１のアルコールのホウ酸エステル生成物２重量％を約
り１０℃〜約１１５℃の温度で例２の基準グリースへ添
加した。
ｌ□（憔事１匪 ステアリン酸とパルミチン酸の５０１５’Ｏ重量％混合
物のリチウム石鹸で基準グリースを増粘した。
凹−ヨし 例２の基準グリースと例４の基準グリースを混合してヒ
ドロキシル基含有増粘剤／ヒドロキシル基未含有増粘剤
５０１５０重量％温き物を形成した。
賎−」− 例４の基準グリースを例１のアルコールのホウ酸エステ
ル２％と混合した。
例２〜６のグリース組成物をＡＳＴＭ　ｒ）２２６５の
滴点試験により試験した。結果を以下の表に記載する。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １、主要量のグリース、及び一般式ＲＯＨ［式中、Ｒは
    Ｃ＿１＿０〜Ｃ＿３＿０の炭化水素基（ハイドロカルビ
    ル基）である］で表される長鎖アルコールと、ホウ酸、
    ホウ素酸化物、メタホウ酸塩または一般式（Ｒ＾ＩＯ）
    ｘＢ（ＯＨ）ｙ（式中、ｘは１または２または３であり
    、ｙは０または１または２であり、ｘとｙの合計が３で
    あり、Ｒ＾Ｉすなわち各Ｒ＾Ｉは炭素原子１〜６個をも
    つアルキル基である）で表されるホウ酸アルキルから選
    択されたホウ素化合物の反応生成物を全組成物を基準と
    して０．０１〜１０重量％含有してなるグリース組成物
    において、グリース組成物が少なくとも約１５重量％の
    ヒドロキシル基含有増粘剤を含む増粘剤を含有すること
    を特徴とするグリース組成物。 ２、グリース組成物がリン及び硫黄を供給するためにリ
    ン化合物または硫黄化合物またはリン含有化合物及び硫
    黄含有化合物の混合物を全組成物を基準として０．０１
    〜１０重量％含有する特許請求の範囲第１項記載のグリ
    ース組成物。 ３、増粘剤が炭素原子１２〜３０個を含むヒドロキシル
    基含有脂肪酸、ヒドロキシル基含有脂肪酸グリセリドま
    たはヒドロキシル基含有脂肪酸エステルのアルカリ金属
    塩、アルカリ土類金属塩またはアミン塩である特許請求
    の範囲第１項または第２項記載のグリース組成物。 ４、金属塩がナトリウム塩、リチウム塩、カルシウム塩
    またはバリウム塩である特許請求の範囲第３項記載のグ
    リース組成物。 ５、増粘剤が１２−ヒドロキシステアリン酸、１４−ヒ
    ドロキシステアリン酸、１６−ヒドロキシステアリン酸
    、６−ヒドロキシステアリン酸、またはそれらのグリセ
    リドまたはエステルから誘導される特許請求の範囲第３
    項記載のグリース組成物。 ６、グリースビヒクルが鉱油である特許請求の範囲第１
    項から第５項までのいずれか１項に記載のグリース組成
    物。 ７、グリースビヒクルが合成油である特許請求の範囲第
    １項から第５項までのいずれか１項に記載のグリース組
    成物。 ８、グリースビヒクルが鉱油と合成油の混合物である特
    許請求の範囲第１項から第５項までのいずれか１項に記
    載のグリース組成物。
